Soundscape of Iran

In the statement of “Soundscape of Iran,” it is said: For thousands of years, sound was a fleeting and elusive phenomenon for humans—untouchable waves that disappeared into the labyrinth of time and escaped into the infinite expanse of the cosmos. Yet these very elusive waves carried our purest emotions and awareness of the world. We refined these waves, poured them into the consciousness and poetry of existence through language, and transformed culture into words. From sighs to moons, we found words to speak and ears to hear. Thus, we composed the experience of listening and understanding the world, and brought it into melody. However, it was only about one hundred and fifty years ago that we managed to capture these fugitive waves, record them, and inscribe them onto recording media. Before this, we had recorded sound through notes and writing, but this time it was the sound itself that remained with us. Recording enabled reproduction, and sound became a repeatable element that completely transformed our lives. Nevertheless, each time this repetition occurred, something of the “moment” of sound was diminished, as if life itself faded within it. “Soundscape of Iran” is an attempt to poetically revisit the early experience of sound recording in Iran.
